General information
Risperdal is an atypical antipsychotic medicine. It works by changing the effects of chemicals in the brain. Risperdal is used to treat schizophrenia and symptoms of manic depression. It is also used in autistic children to treat symptoms of irritability.
Directions
Take Risperdal exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It can be taken with glass of water, with or without meal. Allow the pill to dissolve in your mouth without chewing and crushing. Keep using the medication as directed and tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve.
Precautions
Avoid using Risperdal if you have allergy, Parkinson’s disease, eyes disorder, liver or kidney illness. The drug can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Don’t drink alcohol and smoke. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication.
Contraindications
Avoid using by children, pregnant women, especially if you have the allergic reaction to Risperdal.
Possible side effect
The drug can cause dryness, giddiness, petulance, calming, sleeplessness and urinary difficulty, sometimes may cause allergic reaction. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.
Drug interaction
The medicine can cooperate with droperidol, sparfloxacin, cisapride, some antibiotics, drugs for hypertension, medications for convulsions, debilitants and medicines for neurosis. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for additional information.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don’t take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Call emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Overdose symptoms may include belly pain, sickness, break heartbeat or dizziness.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
